Technical Requirements and Setup for Chromebooks

Helpful tips to ensure that you have a great experiences with EarlyBird.

Device​​ Requirements:

EarlyBird is available for use on Chromebooks or laptops with a Chrome browser.

Touch screens are recommended unless students are more accustomed to using a mouse with the device.

Headsets with Microphone:

  • Having headphones with a microphone is highly recommended.  A key component of the screener involves recording the student speaking. Schools report that headsets are better than earbuds. An example that EarlyBird has used in testing: headset example  
  • TIP: Wrap tape around the volume button to prevent students from turning the volume down too low.

Accessing the App:

Chromebooks or other Tablets devices that can run a Chrome browser
  • The EarlyBird Screener App is accessible via a Chrome browser. 

Accessing the Dashboard:

Internet bandwidth:

  • Download speed recommended: 20 Mbps or higher
  • Upload speed recommended: 5 Mbps or higher

NOTE: Upload may be slow when recording a student's answer when internet bandwidth is diminished.  Also, Internet speeds may vary during the day – especially if surrounding classrooms using the internet.

    Other Helpful Tips: 

    • Log out of the Game board: Exiting the game board/app without logging out could cause future login issues.
    • Charge all devices.  
      • Issues with EarlyBird Freezing or loading, please try the following:
        • Press the cogwheel icon (upper left) and select “gameboard” to quickly reset the subtest. 
        • Ensure that you are running the most recent version of the Chrome Browser
        • Refresh the browser
        • Clear your Cache:
          • On your computer, open Chrome.
          • At the top right, click More   .
          • Click More tools > Clear browsing data.
          • At the top, choose a time range. To delete everything, select All time.
          • Next to "Cookies and other site data" and "Cached images and files," check the boxes.
          • Click Clear data.
          • Refresh your browser
        • If the issue persists, please contact support@earlybirdeducation.com with the following information:
          • Time and date of freezing issue
          • Name of test admin/user who is actively logged in at the time of the issue 
          • Name of the Student who is testing
          • Description of where the freezing issue occurred
