What is Rapid Automatized Naming, what is the RAN subtest, and what does the RAN score indicate?
Rapid Automatized Naming (or RAN), is the ability to rapidly name familiar objects, such as pictures or letters, both quickly and accurately, in a set amount of time. That amount of time gives us an inside look at a student’s processing speed, reflecting how quickly and efficiently a student can retrieve stored information from long term memory. It is important to note that because we are assessing students' independent naming speed, we discourage administrators from tracking for the student or using other tracking tools during the subtest.
