Using Unlocked Mode

Learn how to use unlocked mode when retesting

When you are first logging a student into the EarlyBird assessment, you are able to toggle between locked and unlocked mode, located above the green arrow. In locked mode, a student is presented with an introduction to Pip and the EarlyBird game, and proceeds systematically through each subtest on the gameboard.

Screen Shot 2022-08-06 at 11.12.36 AMUnlocked mode, on the other hand, allows you to navigate directly to a specific subtest, out of sequence.
This is especially useful for those who need to re-administer a specific subtest, for any given reason. One common need for using unlocked mode is to reassess RAN for students who skip a row, or click on the green arrow before naming all items presented.

In both locked and unlocked modes, test administrators are still able to access the cogwheel at any time to restart, pause, or exit a subtest. It's important to note that if students are accidentally logged in using unlocked mode, they will be able to navigate to ANY subtest on the gameboard which will overwrite data for subtests that were already completed.

Please Note: Unlocked Mode is only available when a teacher logs in and selects a student. If a student logs in via SSO there will not be an option to use Unlocked Mode.
